To my surprise, when I went over to Burrus to read to the kindergarten class, I was met by Ms. Harding with a big sign made by the children of Burrus to say thank you for all that we are doing at their school!
I am reminded of the story of Jesus healing the 10 lepers. One came back to say thanks, but the others did as Jesus told them to do, and they went to show themselves to the Priests to be deemed healed. Jesus didn’t do his good works for the thanks, but when it does happen, it is a great spirit lifter.
What we are doing for these families matters. We are helping them get a leg up in a tough world. It is great to get a little recognition, but it was also great to see the first graders and kindergarteners get excited to find out what story I was there to read to them this week.
We will be putting up our Angel Tree in the Narthex. We will be collecting presents for students at Burrus Elementary this year again. Each student will have a shirt and pants size and a suggestion about a toy that they might want. This year we have asked for more names, so I hope you will consider shopping for a student!
Instead of asking for the gifts to be wrapped when they get here, we are actually going to have a wrapping party on December 15, so if you are unable to shop this year, we could use your help donating wrapping paper and tape, or coming to help wrap!
Let us give thanks for this fruitful partnership!
