One of our goals that we are striving for at Grace UMC is to invest in families. This weekend is a perfect example of our opportunities to invest. Our Fall Festival is on Saturday from 10 AM-12 Noon. The weather is currently predicted to be very nice, and we have had a good response to our free tickets through Facebook, so even without the pumpkin patch, we should have a good crowd.
We have not had as good of a response to volunteering. Volunteers are needed to greet people and give them a small gift from the church, to sit and hand out candy as children complete games, to sit and monitor the bounce house, and to hand out snacks. It is not a long commitment, so I hope that you will consider investing in our families this way.
On Saturday, we will also be adding a mini-missions component to our Fall Festival, as they have done in years past. We are starting up the Grace Backpack Buddies Program, and we will be packing our first 21 bags at the festival. These bags will get delivered to Burrus Elementary so that they can go home with them on the first Friday of November. We will pack the remaining bags for the rest of the month after Sunday services on November 3rd. From the stories that Ms. Harding has shared about students, many of them have caregivers that are trying their best to provide for their children, grandchildren, or even great-grandchildren. The food that we can send home on the weekend will help these families have a little cushion of support. I hope that on Backpack Buddy Sunday that you will stay a little longer so that you can help support these students.
