Confession: This weekend I started to listen to Christmas music. I do work in a church, so my mind is already on Advent (and even next year’s VBS), but in previous years, I’ve tried to wait to listen to Christmas music until at least after Thanksgiving, but this year I gave in early!
The cold weather and the Christmas music is making me think extra hard about Christmas, and especially what to get everyone for presents this year. This season can bring a lot of stress for people, especially when you are trying to think of the perfect gift, budgeting to afford everything you want, or who you are missing this year, especially when our culture says it’s time to start planning now for Christmas!
But I’m so thankful for the children here. On Wednesdays, we have chapel with the day school children, and I asked them today what they are thankful for. Several said parents, others food items (including specifically bread), and then we talked about how this is the day that the Lord has made and how we should be glad in it.
It’s a good reminder to take things one day at a time, to find something to be thankful for that day and rejoice over it, and to take the time to enjoy this season.
