Greetings all in the name of Christ!
I want to say thank you to all of you who were able to stick around after worship last Sunday and attend our Town Hall Meeting. We had a really good discussion and decided to form a discernment team who will begin meeting in July. The driving force behind this team’s work will be two-fold: 1) Where is the Holy Spirit leading us? and 2) What exactly would the ministry at Grace United Methodist Church look like if we were a part of the Reconciling Ministries Network? There are still a few spots left on this team, so please let me know if you’d like to be considered.
This week in worship, we will continue the sermon series on how we can Love Like Jesus by examining John 21:15-19
Looking forward, we will be digging into Matthew’s gospel by doing a six-part sermon series on The Sermon on the Mount. Jesus spends three chapters giving us steadfast advice on what exactly our faith life should include. That series will begin on July 14th and go through August 18th.
The next Sunday, August 25th, is our Blessings in a Backpack Sunday! HISD classes begin the next day, and so that Sunday will the day we ask God’s blessing on all the school supplies and backpacks we’ve collected. You’ll hear more details on this soon, but all of those backpacks will be donated to students at Burrus Elementary in Independence Heights.
Starting on August 25th, we’ll also begin a new sermon series called, “The Toy Story Gospel.” We’ll look at all four Toy Story movies, including Toy Story 4, which was released this week and see where the themes in these four movies point us toward the Gospel.
I am really looking forward to these sermon series, and I hope that you’ll invite your friends and neighbors to church to come!
See you this Sunday in the FOLLOW JESUS place.
