A Message from Mary: Come Holy Spirit

Sunday was Pentecost, and we prayed, “Come, Holy Spirit.” This is the kind of prayer you should pray if you really mean it. When the Holy Spirit comes, it can be a little unexpected.
Here’s where I see the Holy Spirit at work. On Sunday morning, we had 22 children officially registered for Vacation Bible School. As of right now, we have 28 children registered and 27 of them attended! (I ordered 40 kids shirts, just in case! I’m glad I did!) We have had 21 adults help, including those who helped prepare dinner, and one teen. The children are all loving the music, and they spill out of the pews so that they can dance better. The oldest class, the 3rd and 4th graders, have started to help lead the dance moves, and we now have a “rocket ship” of canned goods for the food pantry that is growing each day.  The Holy Spirit is working through Vacation Bible School. The children are learning to Go Beyond with Faith, Boldness, Kindness, Thankfulness, and Hope.
The Holy Spirit is at work within our Confirmand. On Sunday, we baptized and welcomed our newest member into our church after she completed a several week confirmation class. She has signed up to go on her first youth mission trip! She will be going to UM ARMY (United Methodist Action Reach-out Mission by Youth) in less than two weeks. She is going with our sister churches, St. Stephen’s and Westbury, and she will help fix houses for those in need. Some of the work she might do includes: building porches, wheelchair ramps, stairs, handrails, or yard work, or painting, or a lot of other things to help others.
The Holy Spirit is at work within our oldest children as they get ready to go to summer camp at Lakeview. Summer camp is a great time to unplug from the rest of your life and really get to know yourself and God. We will worship, have lots of exercise and games, and make memories that will last a lifetime.
The Holy Spirit is at work within you, and here are ways you can support it in the lives of our young people. The mission trip starts Sunday, June 23, and they are in need of individual snack packs of cookies and chips that can go in lunches. If you can bring something to help, that would bless all of the youth and adults on that trip. We are sending letters to our campers, and you can write a little note of encouragement to connect them with their church family at home. You can find an envelope in the Narthex on Sunday.
Come Holy Spirit, Come! I’m excited to see what it brings.
