As my calendar continues to fill up with dates related to Easter and summer plans for the church, it is really easy to forget that this is the holy season of waiting. Jesus didn’t spend 40 days in the desert waiting for things to just hurry up and get here. Instead, he fasted and prayed.
Confession time, I don’t always read my Bible like I should. I usually go through it to plan a lesson, but this week, I had a little free time and decided to spend it in scripture. I then noticed when that scripture popped up in the world around me. When we take the time to read scripture, to pray, to give up something we enjoy to focus on God, it’s easier to see God in the world around us.
If you have already failed your Lenten discipline, or you never started one, it’s not too late. Take some time to focus on God and then pay attention to where God might be popping up in the world around you.
