It is back to school time. Some students have already begun their new school year. Others have a week and a half to go. Teachers are already back preparing their lessons and classrooms for the new year. As a church, we have already begun collecting school supplies and uniforms for Burrus Elementary.
Collections are great and provide much-needed items, but we can’t forget to pray for the start of the new school year. We need to pray for the students, teachers, and faculty of Burrus Elementary. We need to pray for our Grace Weekday teachers and students. We need to pray for the children of our congregation who will be going to schools all over the Houston area. We need to pray for the parents, especially the nervous kindergarten parents and grandparents, as they send their kids off on a new adventure.
We will specifically be invited to pray for our students and teachers on Sunday, August 25, when we have our Blessing of the Backpacks during the worship service. Everyone who comes to be blessed can take home a backpack tag that says “Peace be upon you.” Following the service, we will have a potluck lunch in the Fellowship Hall, specifically to thank our teachers including Sunday School teachers. All are invited to attend, whether you have a child going to school or not. If you would like to bring a dish or see what others are bringing to plan accordingly, you can see our sign up list here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0549aaa92ba2fb6-back1
. Please know you are always welcome to potluck lunches regardless of if you bring something or not.
