Collin's Weekly Column: Judge Not

Greetings in the name of Christ!
Don’t forget this Saturday is our monthly workday at our Harvey House in Independence Heights (530 Spell Street).  We need to start work earlier than we have been to try and combat the heat, so meet us at the house at 7:30 AM.  Even if you can’t make it that early, we’ll be working until around 2 PM, so come on out even for just a few hours.  Demolition is totally complete, and the home has passed a mold test so we will be hanging sheetrock and putting the walls back up.  Since we’ll be trimming drywall, we’ll get quite dusty but it will be totally worth it!  As always, childcare will be provided beginning at 8:30 AM.  Don’t forget that if you are dropping your kiddo off at our nursery, you need to provide a sack lunch.  Please try and let us know if you intend to use childcare by the end of the day on Friday.
This week in worship, we will continue our sermon series called "Love Like Jesus".  This has been a lengthy sermon series, but I have thoroughly enjoyed researching it, and I hope you have enjoyed hearing it.  I pray that you’ve picked up something new about God’s love for us and for the world.  This week, we’ll discuss the topic of judging.  When we accept God’s love for us and decide to walk the path of Christianity, we accept two inescapable Good News truths: 1) There is a God, and 2) We aren’t God.  Part of accepting fully that God is God and we are not is agreeing to start doing some things and stop doing other things.  One of the things we agree to stop doing is offering judgment towards others.  That’s not to say that judgment won’t be handed down, but God will take care of that.  We can disagree with others.  We can be curious about other’s actions.  We can dislike people and the choices they make.  But we’re called to stop short of offering judgment because we must first see to our own actions and thoughts.  All of us will have judgment offered to us, but it will be only God that will do the judging.  We don’t have to worry about that.  We need to love the people around us, and the ones in our community which God has called us to serve.

See you this Sunday in the JUDGE NOT place.
Yours in Christ,
