Greetings all in the name of Christ!
This week in worship, we will continue our Advent sermon series called, “Making Room” as we talk about John the Baptist and his cries for repentance. This happens to me every year. Thanksgiving always manages to sneak up on me. I know when it is on the calendar but for some reason, Thanksgiving surprises me and then like a distant breeze it comes and goes and suddenly the Christmas season is here! My family and I love Christmas and we always decorate our house to the nines. We have a Christmas tree in virtually every room, we put decorations up all around the house and every Thanksgiving night we read, “Elf on the Shelf” as a family and our Christmas elf shows up the next day. And then it happens – I’m in a holiday mood! I look forward to Christmas morning and I start thinking about gifts that I’d like to buy for family members and loved ones. But John the Baptist shows up and he doesn’t shout, “Merry Christmas!” He shouts, “Repent! Prepare the way of the Lord!” and I am forced to stop and think about what really the Christmas season is all about. It is about preparing our hearts to welcome the Christ child into our homes and into our hearts.
I hope that you’ll join us this Sunday as we hear John tell us to slow down, make room in our lives for repentance as we continue to make room for the Christ child in our lives.
See you this Sunday in the ADVENT IS HERE place.
Yours in Christ,
