A lifelong United Methodist, Rev. Kate Walker, began working professionally in churches at 18. She was raised in Slidell, Louisiana, and attended First United Methodist Church with her grandmother and great-aunt; then later with her parents.
Kate is a talented preacher, teacher, and facilitator. The throughline of her ministry and life is helping others discern their gifts and call.
Kate served first as a layperson in Christian Education and Youth Ministry. She held several positions at First United Methodist, Shreveport. While in Chicago, she worked at Community UMC (Naperville, IL), Whitefish Bay UMC (Whitefish Bay, WI), and St. Mary's Episcopal Church (Park Ridge, IL). She moved to Texas to take a youth position at Chapelwood UMC (Lake Jackson) and led them through an identity discernment process. She began working toward ordination and was appointed as Chapelwood's Associate Pastor in January 2014. She left to become Senior Pastor at Deer Park UMC in 2017.
Kate worked for the Vibrant Church initiative as a Lead Consultant and workshop leader. She has taught workshops on vision, values, team building, and organizational alignment for churches and pastor groups in Texas and Louisiana and the South Central Jurisdictional Clergywomen. She recently had two devotions included in Speaking Truth from Abingdon Press.
Kate and her spouse, Patrick, will celebrate their 10th anniversary in 2021. In her free time, Kate enjoys creativity and play. She makes mixed-media art, crochets, plays video games (particularly RPG and JRPG), and loves the challenge of Tabletop and Roleplaying games with her friends, family, and Wednesday night game group.
