Greetings all in the name of Christ!
What a wonderful Sunday we had last week! Over 145 of us gathered to celebrate God and to bless all the backpacks that our church collectively donated to students at Burrus Elementary. In total, we had more than 80 backpacks filled with need school supplies, and 30 school uniforms donated. It was a great day! Thank you for being so generous with your gifts. It is really important to the success of our church and the community.
We also started a new sermon series called, “The Toy Story Gospel.” Over the remainder of the next three weeks, we’ll examine important lessons that are taught to us in the Toy Story movies and where those stories are paralleled in the Bible. Each of the toys in the Toy Story franchise who belonged to the boy Andy has "Andy" imprinted on their feet. We’re going to talk this week about how important it is for us to remember whose name has been imprinted not on our feet but on our hearts. There is something extraordinarily powerful in being named, and we’ll learn or be reminded that we have been named.
This week, if you have time, I’d love to invite you to watch Toy Story 2. It is a great film that I’ve often thought holds up a mirror in front of our face. I say that because almost every time I’ve watched it, I see myself or at least some of my thoughts wrapped up in one of the characters. Where do you see yourself in Buzz Lightyear, Sheriff Woody, Bo Peep, Mrs. Potato Head or any number of other characters?
I hope to see you this weekend in the WE ARE NAMED place. If you are traveling for Labor Day, please be safe!
Yours in Christ,
