OUR STORY

Grace began in 1905 with the meeting of several women who formed the Home Missionary Society of Houston Heights—the Rev. Stephen McKinney served as the first pastor of Heights Methodist Episcopal Church South. Worship services were held in a variety of locations until the congregation built a permanent sanctuary at the corner of 13th and Yale in 1906. A larger building, constructed in 1911-12, served the congregation until 1971. Renamed Grace Methodist in 1950, the current sanctuary opened in 1971 and officially shifted the address to 1245 Heights Boulevard.

Ministry and worship life have evolved over Grace's storied history, and today we're affectionally known as Grace in the Heights. We're in ministry with our neighbors through our preschool, food pantry, faith formation classes, as well as through our community partners providing recovery groups, scouting groups, children and youth education and fitness classes, and other community-building gatherings.

Your First Visit to Grace

Grace's campus is comprised of five buildings with two parking lots constructed in a time long before 21st-century space planning. We've got a whole lot of affection for this beloved place with all its character and quirks. We hope you'll feel warmly welcomed all across campus.

Our community worships Sundays at 11am in the sanctuary facing Heights Boulevard. There's a small lot on Heights next to the sanctuary and a larger one on Yale with two entrances between 12th and 13th street. The 40 Metro Bus stops right across the street, and we offer bike racks for folks utilizing the Heights walking and biking trails.

Our offices are open Monday through Friday 9am-5pm. You may set up an appointment with our pastor, church staff, or community partners by calling the office (713-862-8883) or emailing us (info@graceintheheights.org). Grace Weekday School is open Monday through Friday 7am-6pm, and its entrance is off Yale in the Yale parking lot. The Food Pantry is located at 1230 Yale in a small building in the Yale parking lot.
