In chapel, we have been singing the song, “God Gave Me Feelings” because we are focusing on love this month. Since it’s the third week we have sung through it this year, the kids are getting into the song. Most of them are singing parts of it and doing the hand motions with me. The Bible verse this month is a very interactive version of “You shall love the Lord with all your heart, with all your soul, and you shall love the Lord with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself,” Matthew 22:37&39. This one has hand motions for all the parts of the verse, and even some of the two and three year olds are excitedly reciting the verse with me.
We focused on Samuel today, and how God called Samuel to anoint the next king of Israel, which turned out to be the unexpected David. I did a “magic” trick for the children where I colored in a heart with markers, and then put a page on top with a blank heart. That new blank heart I colored with oil (like David is anointed with by Samuel), and everyone was amazed as the colors on the page underneath started to show through. I explained that God knows our heart, and God knows what we can do even if we don’t look like it on the outside.
Don’t let the month of love end, keep giving and showing love to others. Try to see someone’s heart, like God does, and treat them the way you want to be treated, even when it is hard.
