Collin's Weekly Column: Worry

Greetings all in the name of Christ!
This week in worship, we’ll conclude our sermon series on the Sermon on the Mount by addressing yet another difficult topic: worry.  Though Jesus does undeniably say, “Don’t worry,” I believe that some worry is healthy, and perhaps unavoidable.  Parents worry about children.  Children often worry about parents.  Some of us worry about jobs, health, or finances.  Some of us have a healthy amount of worry in our lives.  Others of us struggle with worry to the point that it sometimes paralyzes us.  Wherever you are on the spectrum of worry, we all worry a bit.
One of the questions we’ll address is, “How do we reconcile the idea that Jesus definitively said, “Don’t worry” and the idea that a few think SOME worry is healthy?”  Largely, this depends on how we view scripture.  If Jesus said something, is there any room for interpretation or is it absolute?  How we answer this question can be very helpful when looking at other topics in the Bible including homosexuality, divorce, marriage, the role of women in society, and so much more.  I’ll share my thoughts this week and I am really looking forward to it.
See you this Sunday in the WORRY NOT place.
In Christ,
